Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is a type of vaginal inflammation caused by the overgrowth of bacteria naturally found in the vagina. But did you know that this very common infection can be caused by semen?
This is the very reason why some women may experience an unhealthy odor after having unprotected sex. Because of the difference in the pH of semen(7.2-8.0) and that of the vaginal pH (3.8-4.5), an imbalance is then created in the vagina. This pH imbalance is was creates odor causing infections.
Most of the time this condition corrects itself but other times it can become chronic causing embarrassing symptoms.
While BV is not the same as a STD, it can cause symptoms such as irritation, burning, unpleasant odors and discharge that may warrant the use of medications from a physician.
